ouch

I was about to see Mike and Missy yesterday at Mom’s when I felt a sting on my upper arm inside my shirt sleeve. I smacked the fire out of myself, but it just kept stinging. Once in the house, I heard a buzz in my shirt. Good thing I was wearing a sports bra because off came said shirt before I got stung again. Neither Missy nor I saw what stung me, but having had my share of bee stings, I’m pretty sure this was not a bee but more a wasp or yellow jacket, both of which I’ve seen around Mom’s deck. My aggressive slap ensured the stinger was buried deep in my hide, seen above as the black/purple dot inside the big red splotch. This photo was taken pretty soon after the sting, and the redness and heat spread over most of my bicep by nightfall. I set out to see Dr. Yelton down the street for assistance. She used a baking soda paste to help the stinger work its way out since neither of us could reach it with tweezers or a pin. Today, the stinger worked out, the redness and heat have lessened, and it’s itching. Yea, for itching! I don’t get stung often, but boy, when I do, I really do. I don’t recommend it, but I’m sure I was quite the sight, yanking my clothes off and hollering like a banshee.
