“To fully experience this life as a human being, we all need to connect with our desire to realise something larger than our individual selves.” ~ Thich Nhat Hanh

back in the saddle

I gotta say the UK masks we’ve been issued are very comfortable. I never got hot or stuffy. It would have been way funny if the mask was a wildcat mouth – I mean, Kentucky Wildcats, hello – but a simple UK logo will do. And as you can see from the rebooting/updating screen behind me, that was pretty typical of my whole day back in the office. I had a small list of things to get through while there, but no. I got through half of the the list thanks to setbacks. But that’s to be expected when one hasn’t been able to oversee the machines for four and half months. Everything needs care and feeding, even the things you don’t expect. It was good to be back, much to my surprise, because I’ve gotten a strong rhythm going at the home office that’s now challenged by the back and forth of dueling offices. Nevertheless, it’s a first world problem that I’m glad to have. The parking on campus was spectacular (that never happens). The traffic was spectacular (that really never happens). I saw a few beloved colleagues from a distance, and even talked to a few. It won’t be like this when the students return, which gives me pause for sure, but all around me – from the deans to the cleaning crew – everyone is doing all they can to make it as safe and as healthy a re-entry as we can. If we all do our part, and keep doing our parts, we might make this work.
