A good laugh and a long sleep are the two best cures for anything.” ~ Irish Proverb

all that remains

The tree sat across the road from clapboard houses, just at the pond’s edge, I imagine. I noticed it years ago when I delivered pizzas. Who wouldn’t? Even through a windshield it commanded fascination; twisted, bent, bulbous, and thick with wiry branches that seemed to reach for the heavens. It had a rather Tim Burton\Harry Potter look in headlights. When they razed the houses, dozed the blacktop, and leveled the land to build the library, they left that tree alone (rightfully). After decades of looking at it, always from a distance, I decided to go say hello. As Mary Carroll-Hackett would instruct, I gave thanks for its many years of service to us, and felt humbled in its presence. A very cool thing indeed.
