“Life is one big road with lots of signs. So when you’re riding through the ruts, don’t complicate your mind. Flee from hate, mischief, and jealousy. Don’t bury your thoughts, put your vision to reality. Wake Up and Live!” ~ Bob Marley

man of the hour

I met Kevin Lane Dearinger about 18 months ago when we were introduced over lunch by our mutual friend and colleague, Gail Kennedy. I adored him the second we met. He is as warm hearted and kind as anyone I’ve ever known. I missed the launch of his new book “Bad Sex in Kentucky” a few weeks ago, so I was sure to go to his first public reading since then, and that was tonight. Besides being an exceptional human being, Kevin is an equally exceptional writer. This latest work is his third, though it’s the most personal (a memoir), and it’s the first he has published by BFF Erin Chandler’s Rabbit House Press. Not only is Kevin a veteran stage actor, he’s also a creative writing teacher; he’s done both for decades. I think each of those disciplines have greatly influenced this book because it reads like a a fantastically written fast-paced Broadway play a la Kentucky Shakespeare with a double dose of hilarious honesty. And hearing Kevin read this work, with those years of theatrical training to his voice, was just beyond spectacular. He and Erin gave me a great end to a pretty perfect day. I’m so grateful to know Kevin. I believe we’ll be friends for a very, very long time. Go now and buy his book.
