“Above all, don’t lie to yourself. The man who lies to himself and listens to his own lie comes to a point that he cannot distinguish the truth within him, or around him, and so loses all respect for himself and for others. And having no respect he ceases to love.” ~ Fyodor Dostoevsky

Bazie “Buddy” Dulen has been an adopted son since we were young. My folks became particularly close to Buddy because of their shared connection to the U.S. Army and his combat experience. In fact, dad gave Buddy his officer’s coin (there’s a particular name for the ceremony that I don’t recall now), which is a high honor among soldiers.  At today’s closing on the house in West Liberty, Buddy said he never thought nearly 40 years after being traumatized by watching “The Gates of Hell” horror flick in the basement den of that house that we’d be sitting in a sales office with him as our realtor. We never know where the road will take us or how the connections we forge expand and contract through time. Some bonds are never broken and I’m grateful Buddy helped us through this hard process.
