“The question is not, how can we obtain love and understanding? The question is whether we have the capacity of generating love and understanding ourselves.” ~ Thich Nhat Hanh

pppffffttttt

I will never eat soup beans again without thinking of dad. He would vigorously smash the beans with his fork, saying he was squeezing all the gas out of them so they wouldn’t cause him gas.  Every.Single.Time. Mom and I would giggle. Tonight, Shero made a big bowl of soup beans and walked them over to me with a big onion, half a pone of cornbread, and some delicious crumble something. Here’s what I noticed. Anything hot makes my throat feel better and temporarily stops the shards-of-glass feeling. The onion wasn’t particularly strong, or so I thought. It, too, burned my throat like heat, and the pain stopped, but I didn’t necessarily taste it, not like usual. However, when I blew my nose after eating, all I smelled was onion. Weird, huh? As soon as I stopped blowing, no onion. Wonder how long this little adventure is going to last? And if I didn’t smash all the gas out of the beans…oh well. Poor Pogo.
