“I have found the perfect paradox, that if you love until it hurts,
there can be no more hurt, only more love.” ~ Mother Teresa

wondering and wandering
wondering and wandering

I caught a glimpse of dad standing alone, staring at his baby brother’s casket from the back of the room. The story he always tells about James was when they first met. It was 1959. Dad had come home on furlough from the Army. It was two in the morning when he slipped in the house and laid down on the couch. In the wee hours after dawn, James, just over a year old, slipped into the room to find this strange man sleeping on the couch. He poked him until he woke up, which then scared James into a fit and he went running to find Mamaw. Dad tells the story with a smile. What a tumultuous feeling it must be to say goodbye to a sibling so young when you’ve prepared your whole life to go first. But if you ask dad how he feels right now, he’ll say James was a good boy and he’s lucky to have him as a brother. Great love comes with great pain. It’s just part of the journey.

Great love comes great pain. Nothing could be no further from the truth, when we are involved in others lives other than our own, when we consider others more than aunt, uncle, and or other relative, but to consider them as brother sister mom dad because they contribute more to your life than you ever would imagine.
I love my family and everything that comes with it, and the ache and pain that folks the heart is overwhelming. We are there for each other.
