wedding day
Hero and Shero’s wedding day was said to be a happy occasion, at least for them. Mamaw Terry looks none too happy to be, if body language is anything to go by, reluctantly giving away your secondborn, nor does Lois Nell, who said it was actually a good day. Even Mamaw Adams looks a bit ambivalent. Lois and I talked about Hero and Shero’s wedding day in the hospital. She recalled wearing a green suit to the wedding. I came across these photos combing through Shero’s pictures for her funeral, and lo and behold, Lois was indeed wearing a green suit (nobody recognizes the young lady in blue). The sweet little church is the one Mamaw Adams helped found and raise money to build. It is nearly unrecognizable today compared to these photos. It looked like this when I was a wee lass, and except for the addition of carpet, it remained fairly unchanged until recently. I also remember these ancestors looking much as they do in these frozen moments from 1963. Time and memory are funny things; times long past feel like yesterday, and vice versa. Perhaps that’s one reason I love photos so much. A moment you can never catch again. I cherish all of the pictures I’m uncovering these days.
ADDENDUM: Cousin Lori Sanford identified the lady in blue as Shero’s second cousin, Lori’s aunt, Treva Crump Danielson. She died in March 2025. Treva’s grandmother, Edna Adams Leggett, and Shero’s father, Orville Adams, were siblings. Mystery solved!
