Judy called at the last minute about supper, and et voila!, we met for supper. The spontaneity of it is one thing I’ll need to get used to again. Tonight was a nice reminder of that choice returned. Then, on another whim, we bought each other’s dinner since we didn’t have the chance to celebrate our back-to-back birthdays in January as we normally would. The explanation of this completely confused the waitress, which gave us one of the best laughs of the night (she didn’t enjoy it as much as we did, sadly). Then, when I tried to take Judy’s picture, she grabbed her phone and did the same. With that, our evening felt complete. As they say in the rural newspaper social sections, ‘a good time was had by all.’
