West Liberty looked entirely different from this intersection in early 2012 before the tornado struck. The Mid-Century Commercial Bank didn’t engulf the block or impede the road. It was a unique structure for the town. The Transit Building didn’t exist yet, and both the Christian Church in the distance and the Methodist Church in the foreground were smaller. However, although it’s now larger, the Methodist Church is aesthetically similar to the building destroyed by the storm and stands like a beacon of hope and love for what the little town used to be. In my opinion, they did an exceptional job on the design. They provided the structure with more space and upgrades without sacrificing the traditional feeling of what the parishioners and those of us from West Liberty had come to love about the building. I’m very thankful for their decision.
