untelling
A few weeks ago, the second issue of Untelling hit the shelves. It is an exquisite arts and literary journal created by the Hindman Settlement School under the direction of Melissa Helton. The inaugural issue blew me away, so when the opportunity presented itself to submit work for the second issue, I took it. To my great joy, they took several images, now available alongside literary work by Jeremy Paden, Clinton Waters, Diane Gilliam, and Chelyen Davis. There’s more poetry and prose by authors such as Jane Hicks and Katerina Stoykova, George Ella Lyon, and personal favorite Willie Carver, Jr. Plus, there’s gorgeous artwork by artists like Deborah Slone, Crystal Boggs, and Beth Reynolds. Five hundred pieces of work were submitted, and being one of the 75 chosen for print is special, to say the least. I’m honored to be among the artists in this issue. For those unfamiliar with the term ‘Untelling,’ it is an Appalachian saying that basically means not knowing. So, you might say, ‘It’s untelling the number of people with the flu,” or ‘ it’s untelling how long this weather will last.”
