“Empty pockets never held anyone back.
Only empty heads and empty hearts can do that.”
~ Norman Vincent Peale
Becky said, “Happy Birthday,” as she handed me a stunningly beautiful embroidered bag from Singapore. That would have been gift enough, but inside were awesome bracelets handmade from recycled newspapers. Again, I nearly squealed like a little girl I loved them so much. Becky Ryder taught me a lot about newspapers nearly 13 years ago now. More importantly, she taught me what it is to be an honest, forthright manager of people and archives. Her enthusiasm was infectious, her ideas big, her leadership inspiring. She motivated me to do my best, and challenged me to grow. Although I really, really, really miss working with her, I’m ever so thankful for our friendship. That was the best thing she gave me.
