leaving on a jet plane

Sharon has gone back to New Zealand by way of a few days in San Diego and Hawaii with her family. The why is a long story, and it’s not my story to tell, but the most important thing to know is that it’s not a bad thing that she is going home, and it was not a bad thing she was here. I believe this trip was pivotal in Sharon’s journey, and I am honored to have been here for her, although I’m sorry she had to live through me having the flu and being zero fun in the process. In any case, we said our goodbyes at – to quote Mary Molinaro – “the Bluegrass not-so-international airport” very, very early this morning in a zero temperature where even the layers of salt on the ground was too cold to be effective. Needless to say, it was quick ‘see ya later’ and certainly not goodbye. I will see my friend again, and wherever we meet in the future time, I look forward to it.
