I’m on a great University committee from the Vice President for Research’s office called CURATE. Once a year, we hold an event that allows researchers from non-med colleges who have received research funds to gather and briefly share that research. Tonight was this year’s event. My role was to introduce the first theme of the evening – storytelling – and the five recipient presenters included in that theme. It’s a simple enough thing to do, really, but the older I’ve gotten, the harder public speaking has become. I look calm, I sound calm, I act calm, but I ain’t calm on the inside. Yesterday, I got a fun birthday surprise in the mail from my Okie peeps, and their timing could not have been better. I put those sassy socks on this morning, and they got me through my short speaking engagement without a hiccup. I hardly even noticed I was speaking – and I was giggling to myself the entire time. So, Barb and Pam, thanks for the vote of confidence and the hilarious socks.
