Our Shero turned 84 today. For her efforts, she was delivered an adorable giant birthday cupcake, birthday cards, and several Happy Birthday singing phone calls (the weather was too bad for people to come sing in person). Every doctor, nurse, tech, and other staff member who walked through her room today wished her a happy birthday, and that cheered her. Reaching this milestone, it feels time to be honest about what Shero is going through. The biopsy scheduled for this Monday will confirm or deny the diagnosis of all the doctors on her team, and that is one of aggressive Lymphoma. That in itself is not necessarily a death sentence. However, because she has so many other problems, the treatment options are limited. Worse still, she developed bacterial pneumonia overnight. Now, she’s fighting that, too. The biopsy is necessary to know exactly how to treat the Lymphoma. Usually, it’s necessary to know for certain that it’s Lymphoma at all, but in her case, the doctoral team has been very aggressive about her care, and the multiple blood tests over days have led to no other conclusion. But no treatment can be started until they know the type of Lymphoma she has. So, there you have it. I am eternally grateful to all of you who have been so kind with your comments, prayers, phone calls, texts, and kind words; Mom and I both feel the love and support, and we’re so thankful to each of you. If it’s not too much trouble, please keep those prayers and well-wishes coming. Come what may, we want Shero to be as pain-free and unburdened as possible. Our birthday girl wants quality of life. I want that for her.
