“Truly, we live with mysteries too marvelous to be understood.
How grass can be nourishing in the mouths of the lambs.
How rivers and stones are forever in allegiance with gravity while we ourselves dream of rising.
How two hands touch and the bonds will never be broken.
How people come, from delight or the scars of damage, to the comfort of a poem.
Let me keep my distance, always, from those who think they have the answers.
Let me keep company always with those who say “Look!” and laugh in astonishment, and bow their heads.”

LBJ wide

I mentioned we went to the LBJ Ranch along the Pedernales River back in Texas. We got there in the heat of the day with the drought well underway. You can see the grass is pretty dead, even for Texas. But the trees – oh the glorious trees – provided needed respite from the sun’s rays and cast a shade of green about the place. We couldn’t access the house’s interior because it was undergoing significant restorations – I think the roof had gone bad or something along those lines – but we had an engaging park ranger who made up for it. Plus, the remains of the airfield out in the middle of nowhere was interesting all by itself, at least to me.
