The library held its annual staff and faculty retreat today. I arrived early and was invited to sit with my friend and ace librarian, Carla Cantagallo, who first appeared in the outhouse its first year. A few months ago, Pam Kingfisher and one of her international groups were searching for someone to assist with research. Enter Carla. The first thing she said to me this morning was, “thank you.” I didn’t know what she was talking about until she began to sing Pam’s praises. The group will soon present a webinar to ICAN (International Campaign to Abolish Nuclear Weapons) based partly on Carla’s research. One of my favorite things in the world is helping people find one another: connecting the dots. And today, not only did I have the pleasure of hearing about a successful connection, but I got to have a long, meaningful conversation with my friend I don’t get to see nearly enough. It was my lucky day.
