“Still, if we want to avoid the suffering of leaving, we will never experience the joy of loving. And love is stronger than fear, life stronger than death, hope stronger than despair. We have to trust that the risk of loving is always worth taking.” ~ Henri J.M. Nouwen

I know it seems like I’ve had a crappy week, but in truth my week hasn’t been as crappy as my mother’s or Allen’s. I’m blessed to have known Allen, and blessed to be able to help mom and dad. Those are good things. I have to see the good in situations or they’d just be too hard, too depressing. Inevitably, when I choose to be positive, something good happens to me. For instance, today I was given delicious treats from Israel by Jan Fernheimer, a faculty member with whom I work closely. It was a kind gesture, and I was really touched by it. And when I got home I found catalpa tree seeds all the way from Oklahoma in my mailbox, sent by the most excellent Joyce Bliss. Tomorrow, I’m going to sow those little seeds in a pot, and eat those delicious chocolate covered Israeli raisins, and keep counting my blessings. Staying positive makes all the difference.
