“Be happy. It’s one way of being wise.” ~ Colette

This is Boyd Hall. It sits in a quad of halls that include Keeneland, Jewell, and Holmes Halls. They’re all being demolished to make way for cookie cutter housing. I delivered countless pizzas to this quad when I was working my way through undergraduate school. They may have been behind the times, but there won’t be anymore dorms built this good. “Up to code” doesn’t always mean better.

Next to Keeneland Hall sits the Hamilton House. The local Historic Preservation association is so upset about its demolition that they put an obituary in the local newspaper. The University, even with an Historic Preservation Program, turned its back on some of the most important architectural structures on campus. No amount of public and professional embarrassment could change their minds. The fences have gone up, and soon the wrecking ball will arrive. I’m grateful I was around to enjoy these wonderful pieces of history. Goodbye good and faithful shelters. You served us well.
