first light

These are samples from the film I shot a couple of weeks ago using Allan’s Dad’s Yashica twin lens camera. The first shot, above, was the only good shot on the first roll. All the others were grossly overexposed. I had trouble understanding the meter. I also struggled with the film advance, and quickly learned the camera preferred to be in its case. I quickly realized I needed it in its case because the support from the neck strap freed up a hand to wind the film.

Anyway, even though only one image survived the first roll, I managed to learn from my mistakes, and the second roll had more success rate. Crystal scanned the negs today, and we laughed as repeating images rolled by, something I’m able to do with digital that doesn’t work with film, particularly 120 film with only 12 images per roll. In any case, I’m flexing the film muscle again, and even the mistakes feel good.
