“Don’t let the world divide us when God created us to love each other.” ~ Unknown

let bygones be bygones

Today was a long, hard day. I began the task of cleaning out the remains of mom and dad’s house. No easy task. People accumulate lots of stuff over 45 years, plus there was still plenty that hadn’t been gone through from Mamaw and Janet’s house after the tornado in 2012. There were some great surprises, too. For instance, I opened the outbuilding to find their old mailbox with our last name written by my hand lord knows how many decades ago. Sweet memories. That mailbox held out longer than the wood it was on.

Thankfully, I had help today. My old buddy, now realtor, Bazie Dulen came by to shore up the sale stuff and wax sweet memories of the place. He remembers all-too-well the night a big bunch of us gathered in the family room basement to watch The Gates of Hell horror movie. The image of a guy getting a drill to the head has stuck with him for nearly 40 years. I had to giggle. Back then, the house was perfect for teenagers, and mom and dad welcomed us all with open arms….and loads of popcorn and pop. It wasn’t unusual at all to have a house full of kids on the weekends watching movies or playing Rook. Jill LeMaster (in orange) regaled her nephew Jacob with all kinds of stories about the house as they helped me schlep stuff up and down stairs for eight hours. They worked hard, hard, hard today to help me get things in order. We didn’t quite finish, but a few days vacation this coming week ought to seal the deal. If you’re in Morgan County looking for a quiet house with great bones and loads of spirit, here’s your chance. It has served my parents well for 45 years. It will serve the next family, too.
