“Be kind, we’re all idiots.” ~ Unknown

stuff

The spring was a blur of busyness, and I hardly noticed the cool things that came my way. The first was the Kentucky Guild of Artists and Craftsmen‘s new website. I had been juried into the guild in February, but when I saw my name on the website among so many gifted artists, I got chills. It makes me want to be a better artist. Retirement will help with that a lot (yes, I’m counting the days). Near the end of the semester, classmates from the incredible Appalachian Studies course asked Jacob Johnson and me as guests on the Appalachian Studies podcast Holler Back. How could I turn down a podcast with such a great name? It was so much fun, an extension of the great vibes we’d all had during class. Finally, I went to a symposium for the Kentucky Climate Consortium (KYCC) and ended up becoming a member. Not because I have a load of knowledge about the climate but because my research is directly tied to climate change in Appalachia. The members of KYCC are incredible, and there is everything from geographers to meteorologists to artists to historians. Much like Historic Preservation, it’s a cacophony of disciplines converging to talk about a singular topic, and that breadth of knowledge makes it so great. So, yea, it’s been a tough year, but I was showered with blessings at every turn. I’ve finally slowed down enough to appreciate the goodness.
