a city of pipe

When drilling first started there was one lonely drill truck. Now, there are three. The noise is constant. Ground water drains into the bowl. The blue-green pool has begun to look like a miniature glacial lake. The men trudge through limestone mud slow and heavy. The heat index is rising to triple digits this week. I remain fascinated with the mechanical skyline. I want desperately to step inside the fence and get up close.
