“I do declare, this heat and humidity is going to melt away my good intentions.” ~ James Howard
I was leaving the office today and passed the enormous surplus pile in the lobby. I stopped to see what was leaving the archive, and I spotted this. Back in the 1960s, my great-aunt Ada Sparks, whom I called Nannie, had one of the original drinking birds. It had red solution and a yellow hat, more like this one. I watched that thing for hours, completely entranced. Nannie had it dipping its beak into a glass of water, which got pretty gross after a while. I didn’t care. I’d watch it if it had slime growing off its beak. Not sure when or why they changed from red to blue. Although I prefer red, thank you, personal experience (showing my age now), the idea is still fun, whatever the color. I’ve got too many responsibilities to have one now, but maybe once full retirement kicks in, I’ll consider one.
