You’d think in 2016 that a city the size of Lexington would not have railroad crossings in the middle of town, but you’d be wrong. There are a couple lesser arteries leading to campus that do, in fact, get held up by trains several times a day, and even more times at night. When the wind blows from the south or east, I can hear this train a mile from my house like it’s in my backyard. I love it. Many years ago I lived just four houses from this very spot. That was too close for my tastes, but where I am now? Perfection. I don’t even mind being held up for work by the trains. It gives me time to appreciate the little businesses nearby and consider how fortunate we are to have the soothing sounds of a train in town. I’m listening to one pass through now. Sweet dreams.
