Dan the Man
You’ve met Dr. Dan Vivian before in the outhouse, and this morning, I had the pleasure of running into him again. He gifted me a copy of his 2018 book A New Plantation World: Sporting Estates in the South Carolina Lowcountry, 1900-1940. It’s been on my radar for a while, but it’s not cheap, and therefore, has not made its way to my bookshelf. I ran into Dan a few weeks ago when the topic of his book came up, as he’s currently doing research on the Underground Railroad nearby in Ripley, Ohio. After supper, I read the introduction of Dan’s book. He is an exceptional writer and scholar, as I already knew, and I feel very fortunate to have studied with him. He has consistently given me wise advice. Once more, he has inspired me.
