“May your heart always be joyful
And may your song always be sung
May you stay forever young”
~ Bob Dylan

Yesterday, you saw the outside—well, most of the outside—of the Balsam Mountain Inn. Today, we’re having a look at the lobby. This is definitely the most impressive area of the hotel. It is the area where the Conards have put most of their energy into aesthetics. Their substantial energy, however, has been spent repairing the damaged heating and plumbing. It would be great to have gotten a tour of the entire hotel. It was originally built in a U shape, but a large three-story wing was added off the South wing at some point. Today, they only have rooms available on the second and third floors of the South wing. The Conards live somewhere in the hotel, either on the bottom floor of the South wing or the add-on wing. The North wing is closed until they can afford to repair the boiler radiators the former owner let freeze and burst. In the meantime, they have music every Tuesday evening in the lobby and probably on the porch during warmer months and complimentary coffee in the mornings. You must go elsewhere for food, but they have a full-service bar. Priorities, people, priorities.
