“Evil isn’t prejudiced. It doesn’t care what you look like; it just wants a place to rest. It’s up to you whether you give it that place.” ~ Ruby Bridges

final product

The 20 hours I put into this hand drawing of an infill house design over the last three days paid off. I got a pretty darn good review on the plan today. This was the first time I’d drawn an original design to scale, and it was certainly the first time I’d ever attempted elevation drawings. This is essentially a single-residency shotgun house designed for a filmmaker/archivist on a small urban lot. It adds elements from some of the surrounding houses to better fit in, and it adheres to many of the basic Lexington building codes (height, setback, relation to property line). It has total square feet of 4386. Not bad for a shotgun house, huh? There are a few little things the prof was interested in seeing me add, but he was very generous with his approval and very generous in answering my questions. It buoyed me in making this the best I can make it… but not tonight. Tonight, I am collapsing into my bed.
