“Never forget the ones who saw you at your lowest point, and instead of offering judgement and distance, they extended presence and grace. Those are your people.” ~ Terence Lester

good people

We met Irwin and Neva Williams at Camp Robinson (the base camp of Robinson Forest) almost two weeks ago now (where is the time going?). He takes care of things around the camp, and she cooks. And let me tell you, this woman can cook. There wasn’t a hungry belly in that camp when she got done with us. The couple were in camp the night of the flood and told us many stories about that night and the aftermath. Some stories were inspiring, and others were heartbreaking. Irwin and I found out early on that he knew dad and a ton of other people in West Liberty. He used to deliver Pepsi, and then Coke, throughout Eastern Kentucky and the grocery stores in West Liberty were on his route. We’d still be at the kitchen table talking if I hadn’t had to leave. It’s for the best really, because I’d be broad as a barn if I kept eating Neva’s food. It is so, so, so nice to spend time with good people, and they made our stay at Robinson Forest special.
