“In the end, we only regret the chances we didn’t take, the relationships we were afraid to have, and the decisions we waited too long to make.” ~ Lewis Carroll

Let me tell you, I am the luckiest person on the planet. I get to show my photographs alongside the exceptional Sam McKinney whom I had not seen in person in well over 25 years until we delivered our work for the upcoming exhibit today (in the snow no less – that’s right, I said in the snow). If you don’t know Sam’s work, you should. He’s one of the finest artists Kentucky has ever produced, straight out of Elliott County. Pam Oldfield Meade introduced me to Sam 35 years ago or there ’bouts. It was at his house that I met the awesome Tim Gilliam, the sexiest man in overalls (but don’t tell Fred Sexton I said that). Tim and I went on to make some great music together, and Sam did the cover for the second Stealin Horses album, Mesas and Mandolins. Here we are 35 years later and Pam, once more, has brought us together. She cooked up this exhibit and was kind enough to include me. It opens April 1 – the Kentucky Folk Art Center’s grand reopening after Covid – and runs through June 1. I’ve never been more excited about a show than I am about this one. I can’t wait to see what curator Julia Finch does with our work. The exhibit is called Fine Folk: Works by Rebecca Miller Campbell, Ron Gevedon, Sam McKinney, Pam Meade, and Kopana Terry. We’ve learned the reception will be held on Tuesday, May 3, from 5-7, and there will be artist talks some time or other. I’ll let you know about those. This picture below might be one of my favourites. I wish I’d had that aperture open so Pam and Jim Bob were more in focus, but a little depth of field action didn’t dull their shine one bit.

And get a load of this, Mom met Sam for the first time today and she talked about him all the way home. If he come to town looking to make a new friend, he succeeded. I’m chalking this up to a great day (I think mom is, too, after meeting Sam).
