Lily is very creative. There is wallpaper in the upstairs hall. Well, there was. That’s where the creative part comes in. Lily has been a chewer since she was a kitten. It’s a habit she has only moderately grown out of. The vet seems to think she’s bored. Highly intelligent cats get bored, just like people. Lily’s like an uber-smart teen acting out in math class because she should be in advanced calculus instead. There is a method to her madness. There are places that would be easy for her to destroy, and yet she won’t touch them. She has a vision for the room, that’s clear to me. I know what you’re thinking: kill the cat, or at the very least declaw her. I love her too much to kill her, though I have wanted to from time to time. Leo smacks her around so that declawing would be utterly unfair. I’d have to declaw them both, and I don’t have the heart. Therefore, I’ll just let her create, knowing this summer I will rip it down, paint the walls, and she’ll go after something I can’t fix. So what? She makes me laugh. I mean, look at her posing with her handiwork! How could you not love such a creative force? She really is the smartest cat I’ve ever known. I never liked that wallpaper anyway.
