“Hope has holes in its pockets.
It leaves little crumb trails so that we, when anxious, can follow it.
Hope’s secret; it doesn’t know the destination-
it knows only that all roads begin with one foot in front of the other.”

Opening ceremonies for this year’s Appalachian Studies Association (ASA) conference is now under our belts, and we are officially underway. These are the Kentuckians representing our mountain heritage this year (not pictured: Silas House, Jason Howard, and Chris Green…and probably others that didn’t make it for the photo). We had three, count ’em three, award winners among us; Jed Debruin, Jim Embry (best stage entrance ever), and Dr. Jill McCommons. I love this conference, and I absolutely love these friends, colleagues, and fellow Appalachians. It is always an honor to be in their company.
