This afternoon was the annual Bluegrass Trust Awards. That’s where I ran into my old friend and coworker, Toni Grider. After the event, we started talking about a lot of things, including retirement – we’re both phased retirement UK librarians – and the death of parents and spouses, in Toni’s case. As Roberta Taylor did months ago, Toni said some extraordinarily valuable things at a crucial moment for me. Her retirement journey has been remarkable, and she confirmed what I’ve always known: being open to possibility is the key to finding what’s right and what’s next. So far, this next chapter is looking incredibly bright, and deciding to retire made that possible. As Toni and I agreed this evening, when it’s time to retire, you’ll know. I did. No regrets. Just immense gratefulness for friends like Toni.
