The pre-tenure faculty gathers monthly to socialize, discuss, complain, and talk about dossiers and whatnot. This month’s meeting was lunch at Josie’s near campus. I had no sooner walked through the door than I saw BFFs Erin Chandler and Kevin Dearinger. Day made! I could have spent the whole afternoon with them. It’s not that I don’t love my colleagues, but I haven’t seen Erin in way, way, way too long, and when I see Kevin, it’s usually at a BGT event, and there’s no time to talk. Erin and I are so busy that we can hardly get it together to visit. But gosh darn it, we’re gonna get over that hump and gather soon. And that Kevin Dearinger might be the sweetest thing ever was. I don’t know how I got so lucky to be in their company. Plus, I met Mayla McKeehan. She and Kevin were the original boy and girl in Fantasticks of the 1973 Canterbury Players Production. They’ve been friends ever since. As expected, she’s every bit as kind as he is. New friend made. Old friends hugged. They filled my heart with joy.
