“Learning to be calm when you’re disrespected is a superpower.” ~ Unknown

Siberian spring

The Siberian iris that Elaine Heis gave me years ago are more stunning this spring than they have ever been. I sit at my home office – also known as my living room – and stare out the front door at them all day. They’re truly stunning. In other news, a non-family member on facebook decided to let the entire population know about dad’s accident, so I might as well tell the truth here before the rumor mill goes off the rails as it can only do thanks to facebook. Recall last Saturday I said we didn’t go visit Aunt Janet because she was ill and dad had fallen the day before and was sore. Dad has long suffered PTSD nightmares. Sometimes they make him quite active. That’s been especially true over the last 12-15 years. His fall was caused by one of these episodes. He threw himself out of the bed, over a rail no less. This isn’t the first time this has happened. He once broke two ribs throwing himself out of bed. This time it’s a bit more than ribs. He cracked his L4 vertebra. A compression fracture they call it. Though it’s a hairline crack, it’s super painful as you might imagine. He showed zero signs of pain over the first 36 hours after the fall. We spent a nice Saturday with mom, had a few laughs, a nice dinner, no problem. Late Saturday evening he began to complain, which if you know our Hero, he does not complain, so we knew something had changed. His doctors are doing their best to ease the pain while the crack heals. There’s little else to be done, frankly, and because he has so many other medical problems, his health care options are often very limited. He will be okay, but he’s going to be in pain for a while, and poor mom….as if she wasn’t pulling double duty already. I swear, the woman is made of iron and steel. Say little prayers for them. Light a candle. Think healing thoughts. They could use them all for just a little peace and comfort.

Please tell your hero and Shero that we think of them so often and are lifting prayers for their healing and strength. Much love!!
