fun friends

A couple of months ago my friend Nevil Kiddier across the pond in Essex UK (lower right corner) asked if I’d like to play drums on a track for their band, LockTown. It’s a band he put together near the start of the pandemic lockdown that includes his daughter Lou (upper left), her BFF Carly (upper right), and his BFF Steve (upper center). It was thier way of getting through the isolation since Steve and Nevil are regular players at the local clubs. And if memory serves, Lou always wanted to sing with Carly, so LockTown was a win-win for everyone. Of course I said yes, I wanted to play, and I wasn’t the only guest. They invited Fi Fraser and Jo Freya to play horns (bottom left). Horns – squeeeee! I’ve always wanted to be in a band with horns. Then, Nevil told me they do all the recordings on their iPhones. I’d been listening to their songs all through the pandemic and I was blown away when he told me that’s how they’d been recording them. Dubiously, I dragged my iPhone into the drum room and gave it a whirl. I couldn’t believe it worked. As a friend said later, “To think we spent all that time and money mic-ing drums!” Once the audio was cut, I recruited Stacy Yelton to hold the camera for the video, making sure it was high enough to enhance the look (read: reduce the double chin). Poor thing. I think it was two days before she could drop her arms again. In any case, tracks in hand, Steve worked his magic with the mix, Lou worked her magic with the video, and here’s the finished product. I just can’t get over how awesome it sounds and looks, and I really cannot thank Nevil and the band enough for letting me be part of their lockdown experience. I’ve got a hankerin’ for another trip across the pond very, very soon so we can play some tunes together in person. Tech is cool and all, but nothing beats a live performance. Until then, enjoy!

Oh my gosh……I’ve listened and listened and listened still can’t get enough of this. Love y’all……and it was so very nice of Nevil sending me a personal message (even though I can’t find it now – 😥).
