“If everything around you seems dark
Look again
You may be the light”
~ Rumi
Everything in Luckenbach started at the general store (post office) and everything still revolves around it. Opened in 1849 by a German named Luckenbach, the little store sits on a near-dry stream called Grape Creek. There’s a bar built on the back where you can get a cold beer from the bar inside or through the hinged wood window lifts. You can read about the store and the history of Luckenbach here, and I recommend you do. There are very few places in this country where you can be in the company of others that still exudes relaxation and safety like Luckenbach. I was surrounded by strangers and felt completely at home under the big oaks. If I lived nearby I’d be there all the time.
