Adenas

Tonight’s Blue Grass Trust deTour was at the Mt Horeb Adena Park in Fayette County. Most people have no idea we have an Adena-era henge in our backyard. It was chilly, but at sunset, with the Elkhorn just over the bank, it was a perfect time to explore and hear about the history of the earthwork. It’s unclear exactly what ancient people used the site for, but a lack of artifacts suggests it was not a permanent site and that any ritual leftovers were cleared. It’s owned by the University, and they keep it locked, no doubt with good reason. This place is spectacular, and it was a perfect night to take it in.
