“And now here is my secret, a very simple secret:
It is only with the heart that one can see rightly; what is essential is invisible to the eye.”
~ Antoine de Saint-Exupéry

If I ever doubt that my parents are loved and admired by an entire community, all I will ever have to do is post a picture of them in their military or D.A.V. uniforms to facebook, and I’ll get more traffic on that post than I will on a year’s worth of posts combined. This morning I did just that in honor of Veterans Day. Boy howdy, did it blow the face off of facebook. You always hear parents bragging on their kids, but I get to brag on my parents. I am exceedingly proud of the decent, compassionate human beings they turned out to be. I have watched them struggle through some terrible things. I’ve watched them give the shirts off their backs to help others who couldn’t help themselves. I’ve lost count of the times they’ve bent over backwards to make sure someone or some organization had what it needed. They have always done their best, and they haven’t always been thanked for it. You’ll never hear them complain, though. I stand proudly in their shadows today and count my blessings that they are my parents.
