“Surviving is good, but overcoming is better.” ~ Shelley Hendrix

This is Stacy trying to make me laugh. She tried all day, bless her. I’ve been saddled with a massive technological cleanup at work for a mess that started long before I came aboard. I knew this day would come sooner or later. When I started the cleanup on Monday I was fairly upbeat. By the time I woke up this morning I was grumpy as all get out. Imagine having to sort 6,000+/- xml files from three separate locations; get rid of duplicates but make sure you’re getting rid of the oldest of the two while also trying to discern between junk files and files that actually have real content (you have to open them to know). And that’s just the first step in the process. The following steps are just as tedious. I vacillate between being thankful I have a job and resenting a mess I didn’t make. I normally take things in stride, so I’m not entirely sure why this is bugging me. The only thing I can come up with is that the cleanup is massive, and I’m just one person who can’t lock her door until it’s done. I have people asking me questions all day, patrons who need requests filled, meetings, emails, phone calls: it’s a living, breathing office with a full (and ever changing) agenda, mess or not. At the Sacred Spaces reception I was explaining the positive nature of the outhouse. Annie Bassoni suggested I write a post that was super negative just to throw everybody off. Well, here ya go, Annie. Is this negative enough for ya? <insert laughter here> I know this will all get fixed eventually, and I’ll be back to my chipper self. In the meantime, thank God I’ve got Stacy to keep me laughing and Wally to play fetch.
