This is my friend Ana Krahmer. We’ve known each other for many years, but we only get to see one another at conferences. She runs the newspaper program at UNT in Denton, Texas. We have a lot in common in addition to newspapers. One such thing is a quirky sense of humor. We’re on the standing committee for the IFLA News Media section. We have two other friends on that committee, Mary Feeney and Niels Bønding, whom share our quirky humor. At the last IFLA meeting, they began taking selfies and posting them to Facebook as a way to say “Hi, we miss you, Kopana.” Ana and I decided to return the favor, but instead of one selfie, we did three, and posted them throughout the afternoon. Nobody on facebook would have understood what was happening, I’m sure, but Mary and Niels did. Meanwhile, Ana and I had a big laugh, followed by a great dinner of extremely fresh sushi, and a really meaningful, important conversation about everything from politics to dogs to jobs. Her friendship and collegiality is invaluable to me, and I’m so thankful to know her.
