“Stay close to people who make you feel like it’s okay to be yourself.” ~ Unknown

west from south fork

Our Adams family cemetery, South Fork, is at Malone, where my great-grandparents settled from Magoffin County between 1910 and 1930. I was told today that near this tree is a grave from 1725. Since Fort Harrod and Boonesboro didn’t exist until 1774 and 1775, it is highly unlikely any marked grave in this area of Appalachia is that old. However, I found a gravestone marked 1778, and that’s impressively old in Kentucky. This area was still largely uncharted land of Virginia’s western frontier at that time. Kentucky didn’t become a state until 1792. I need to learn much, much more about this cemetery. I bet Larry Scott Evans knows some of its histories.
