“Imagine if we measured success by the amount of safety people felt in our presence.” ~ Jonathan Lewis Dent

King

I went downstairs to the King Library Press. Ace volunteer Ralph (whose last name escapes me) told me how they made this print. The wood block of the Delta Queen was discovered among their many blocks. The artist is unknown. Ralph thought it was so beautiful he felt he needed to do something with it. And so he did. He told me how the intricate lines (distorted here by moirĂ©, unfortunately) were created by a device whose name I’ve since forgotten, but they have one in the Press, and he even demonstrated how it’s used. I’m telling you, the King Library Press is one of the best things at UK. You met director Paul Holbrook way back in 2019, but all the volunteers are nice, and Ralph is especially sweet and generous, always quick to regale me with the beauty of what they make. I was only sorry I didn’t have my camera with me. Thank you, Ralph, for always being so kind and making beautiful art.
