electronics in junk mail

AT&T had a bad day so they decided to make a bunch of us in Central Kentucky have a bad day, too. Well, not really, but an inconvenient day all the same. Whatever went wrong, they cut Shero off in the middle of her call to Aunt Lois at 11:30 this morning. She couldn’t call IT to tell them (me), but she could text. A little sleuthing revealed neither of us could call out or receive calls. Calling via WiFi and access to our voice mails didn’t work either. However, texting and web browsing and all the apps were fine. Interesting, no? Then the mail came, and I saw a device on a piece of junk mail in my mailbox. At the side of the device was a tab that said “pull to activate.” Curiosity killed the cat if it was a bomb because I pulled it. The suspense was killing me. The numbers on the front of the device – 62237 – lit up. Why? Why would you waste money and pollute the environment with such a poor selling point? It was too weird. So I opened the device and found a couple of watch batteries and a “made in China” stamp. Everything we have in this country, even the junk mail, was made in China. tsk tsk. America and your incessant need for cheap everything. Meanwhile, it’s nearly twelve hours later and we still don’t have cell service. Ma Bell ain’t what she used to be. But hey, it was a gorgeous day outside and me and Buddy got a lot of work done and that old pesky headache that’s been nagging me all week finally went away. That’s a win.
