“The next time you see someone enjoying something that isn’t hurting anyone, that’s not your cup of tea, instead of saying something negative, train yourself to think to yourself ‘I’m glad they are happy’ and carry on with your life.” ~ Mark MacKillop
Before last night’s Tribute performance, I was scoping out the stage when I heard a tiny voice in the cavernous room, “Kopana Terry!” I turned and searched the crowd for a familiar face. I saw her standing, waving, and smiling that old familiar smile, “It’s Dalphna!” she exclaimed. It was indeed, and a hug seemed wholly insufficient for the time we’d been apart, but a hug was exactly what she got. Meet my precious friend Dalphna Donnelly. We spent many hours talking, eating snacky foods, and making art. We met when our mutual friend Lisa Banyai put together the Women Artists Group (WAG) in the late 1990s. We had so much fun, but after five years or so, life took over. We stopped gathering more than we disbanded, as I recall. In WAG, I met and became friends with some of my favorite people, and Dalphna is at the top of that list. She is one of the brightest lights I’ve ever met, and full of energy and ideas like few others. Until last night it had easily been fifteen years since we last saw one another, give or take, and I was reminded of just how far too long that was. This is just one more reason why I love the yearly Music for Mission tribute shows. Nothing brings people together like music.
