Miss Lemonade!

Now that I’ve recovered enough from Friday to be upright, let me talk about how much fun Friday evening was. I normally photograph the Music for Mission Tribute shows, and this year was no different. Last year the John Lennon Tribute was virtual – thank you Covid – so there were no photos. The year before that, like this year, I pulled double duty as photographer and drummer for the Radical Departures. That year, in the before time when being in public wasn’t an issue – thank you Covid – BFF Crystal Heis graciously came down and stood in for me on camera duties while we played. This year, my friend Julie Smoak, ace photographer and music lover whom you will meet soon, was in the audience and agreed to fill in for me.

This year’s tribute was more of a challenge to shoot than years past. Fewer singer/songwriters were traded for more bands and the sound system was much larger. The normally ample stage was reduced to cattle trails by speakers, amps, and cords galore. The set changes were longer, and the photographic opportunities few. Julie had her work cut out for her, but rise to the challenge she did. We had some real technical challenges to overcome (that’s a story for another day), but as you can see from Melissa’s face, we had a blast anyway. Thank you, Julie, for capturing our moment.
