“The quieter you become, the more you are able to hear.” ~ Rumi

bridge over troubled water

To my complete surprise, my room at the historic Omni Shoreham has a balcony. It’s not big, but it’s big enough to open the door and step out to take in the view from the eighth floor of the beautiful William Howard Taft Bridge over Rock Creek that converges with the Potomac not far away. Presidents from Franklin D. Roosevelt to Barack Obama have held presidential balls in this hotel. The Beatles stayed here. Aretha Franklin performed here. The list of guests and performers goes on. This is my second stay in this hotel (different conferences each time), and it is a far better experience than my first back in early 2019. It was freezing with an ice storm threat, and by the time I got to the hotel, I was chilled to the bone and over the whole experience. The conference wasn’t very inspiring either. This time, however, the conference is fantastic (it’s the National Trust’s annual conference (Past/Forward), offering the information I hoped to learn, and the people have been nicer than all my DC trips combined. Plus, the weather is perfect. The Omni Shoreham has redeemed itself.
