the gum wall

I took Greg to the Gum Wall. Yes, I said gum wall, and it’s exactly what it sounds like. In Post Alley is a section where, for decades, people have deposited their chewing gum on the walls and anything connected to them. I can say it wasn’t nearly this impressive 38 years ago. The Pike Place website says the Gum Wall didn’t start until the 1990’s, but there was a Gum Wall before that when I was here in ’88. I remember it very well, but I don’t have photos of it from that trip, and it definitely wasn’t as big as it is now. Anyway, I watched Greg’s disgust turn to fascination when he realized just how much gum, saliva, and germs surrounded us. It was very entertaining. It’s been a lovely day, and my feet are killing me again. Mission accomplished.
