My HP class had a field trip today to nearby Winchester. We picked out the houses we want to survey this semester and learned a great deal about the neighborhood they’re in; the Thompson neighborhood near downtown. I’ll be surveying the Hickman house, from whence these narrow steps descend. The antebellum building today houses an insurance firm. It’s also obscured by mature trees and neighbors close enough to hear a flushing toilet. Photographing it was tough, but I love a challenge and I’m looking forward to the project. Have I mentioned that I really love this class? HP was totally the right choice for me. Once a preservationist, always a preservationist.
