Fall is in the air. The light at day’s end reminds me so much of my Papaw Adams. This kind of day would find him in a lawn chair near the creek, whittling a cedar stick and spitting tobacco juice at ants. A choir of crickets echo off the hill as the last rays of sunlight struggle through summer’s canopy and dance a meandering waltz with the water, silver minnows shimmering like a disco ball. A kind of silence settles in, and with it, calm. This building – Patterson Office Tower – has absolutely nothing to do with my grandfather, and yet I am reminded of him. It was that kind of day. Fall is in the air.
